REAL 4WD

Sometimes, it’s a necessity. Sometimes, it’s all in the name of pleasure. Then there are times when the ability to cross rough ground is a life-saver. Whatever your need from your Triton, its advanced 4WD systems are built for the job. 4WD Magazine agree, awarding Triton Ute of the Year in 2010.

Introducing MATT

Mitsubishi All Terrain Technology, commonly known as MATT, is a combination of traction systems. It’s what enables Triton to tow, haul and operate in all terrains, just as the name implies. It’s something that we developed in the Paris–Dakar rally. It worked so well it made sense to put it on our other vehicles. On or off-road, there’s no surer way of keeping control.

Active Traction Control (ATC)

ATC reacts immediately to loss of traction, maintaining your line round a corner or obstacle. If a wheel slips, ATC applies brake force to that wheel and sends power to the others. It means you keep traction on even the loosest surface.

Multi-mode Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)

This system lets you steer away from danger while you brake hard. The EBD side of things senses the vehicle attitude and the surface you’re on and sends the optimal amount of brakeforce to each wheel. It’s the best way to avoid unexpected hazards.

Active Stability Control (ASC)

To combat over- or under-steer, this system senses when to apply brakeforce or engine power to each wheel independently. This keeps you on the best and safest line through a corner. You wouldn’t want to hit the road or track without it.

Super Select 4WD with Centre Diff Lock on Triton GLS

Another system that was born in the dust somewhere between Paris and Dakar is our famous Super Select 4WD. With one dial on the dash, you can select any of four traction modes. You can even switch from 2 Wheel Drive to 4 Wheel Drive high modes while travelling at up to 100km/h.

Easy Select 4WD on Triton GL and GLX

Like Super Select, this system allows you to change traction modes on the move. The three settings give you ultimate economy from 2WD, right down to serious stump-pulling low range 4WD.

2H (2WD high range)

For regular road driving, this setting gives you power, solid handling and the best economy.

4H (full-time 4WD)

For bad weather, or bad roads, this setting gives you added grip and stability.

4HLC (4WD high range)

When you’re off-road, this setting distributes power to all four wheels equally.

4LLC (4WD Low Range with Locked Centre Differential)

When the track runs out, or disappears beneath the mud, this mode will make you glad you’re in a Triton. It sends all of Triton’s power and traction to the wheels. If you try this system and still want more climbing ability, might we suggest a helicopter.
